Laminated impact glass is a multi‑layered glazing material designed to remain intact under strong impact, high wind pressure and heavy rain. It typically consists of two or more glass panels bonded together with a durable interlayer, often PVB or SGP, which holds the glass fragments in place even when broken.
During a storm, flying debris, sudden wind gusts and repeated pressure changes can strike building openings with significant force. Ordinary glass may shatter and fall inward, creating an open path for rain, wind and further damage. Impact‑resistant laminated glass helps prevent immediate penetration and reduces the risk of structural failure caused by broken openings.
For coastal projects and hurricane‑prone areas, this type of glazing is often specified for impact windows, storefronts and exterior doors. It supports better water tightness, wind load resistance and debris impact performance compared with standard glass. However, full system performance depends not only on the glass, but also on the aluminum frame, sealing structure, hardware and overall installation quality.
